Just a Glimpse by Czerny B
I’ll tell you all a tale
Of a lad, that was me
Who yearned for nothing more
But of a love so free.
On the banks of River Shannon
T’was the night I first laid eyes
On such a fair and lovely damsel
Standing beneath the moon rise.
She possessed of a great beauty;
I drank in her sweet poison of love
As senses lost in rapture an’ delight
That could only be swayed above.
Mine heart so heavy of love
Thrilled by the sight of her
I nearly fell over there
Over the wide open moor.
But, nay! As I looked again,
She was gone like a knave
For alas, I only caught
A glimpse of her wave.
So may this lesson for you laddies
Teach tae bide awa'
From maidens who seek
For your hearts I daresay.
